Endorsement letter by John Struck

John Struck was awarded the US History Teacher of the Year for the state of Virginia in 2014 and Outstanding Educator by the University of Chicago in 2015.

An American Chronicle, by Glyn E. German, is an exceptional work of history. As a teacher of American history for 34 years I have seen a few supplemental textbooks much like German’s work but this book is far more comprehensive.

German’s text can be used by teachers and students alike. Teachers can utilize this resource to add to their personal knowledge, students can use this work to give them a clearer picture of the timeline of American history, the detail is exceptional but not overdone as to where students would get lost in the narrative.

This book would be an excellent resource in an Advanced Placement classroom. AP® U.S. history requires students to contextualize different historical eras and events and to have a greater understanding of how events from the past impacted later time periods. The specific events included in An American Chronicle would be invaluable.

As a teacher of U.S. history, this resource would be the first I would turn to when I need to add to a lecture, write a paper, or provide support for a discussion that is going on in a class setting. German’s work is better than relying on a “Google search” – all the information is there at your fingertips. This work may save the hard-copy text!
